Participants will be greeted by church members to hear scripture, pray, and receive ashes and a blessing. From 7 AM- 2 PM, pedestrians and drivers may stop in the front parking lot for a brief prayer and the imposition of ashes (the placing of ashes in a cross-shape on the forehead or hand to remind us of our mortality). This Ash Wednesday DHPC friends and members, as well as our local neighbors, commuters, workforce, grocery shoppers, and child care droper-offers are invited to participate in Ashes to Go. In humility, we promise anew to live into God's grace, that we encounter in Jesus Christ's life, death and resurrection.

On this first day of Lent, Christians acknowledge our sin in light of God's hopes for us, and we reflect upon our mortality in light of that sin and in contrasts to God's immortality. Ash Wednesday marks the first day of the 40 days of Lent, a roughly six-week period (not including Sundays) dedicated to reflection and prayer (and sometimes other spiritual practices like fasting), in preparation for Easter.
